Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is, as the title suggests, about the Rani Laxmibai, the famous queen who ruled Jhansi. The film is biographical, and thus has invited surveillance and attack by groups which have started opposing it even before its principal filming.
According to reports, the state president of a right-wing fringe outfit called Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha (one of such groups) has claimed that the filmmakers have been shooting a love song featuring Kangana and a British person playing the role of an agent of the East India Company.
Alleging that it distorts historical facts, he has asked that the government of Rajasthan to halt the film’s shoot, and ensure that such distortion does not happen by ordering the crew to provide an undertaking affirming the same and that the film will feature no controversial scenes.
They also threaten to escalate their agitation if their demands are not met.
